“WYD?” is a digital humanoid device. Electronic detritus merges forming an emotionless but engaged face and shoulders, just enough human-like figure to act as an avatar in a profile photo. The “pupils” of the device track back and forth as human eyes do when they are processing information or listening. Once the viewer closes in on the device the pupils are revealed to be a figure sitting at a desk shifting in their seat. The figure on the tiny screen sits confined behind a desk at a computer scrolling through their phone, virtually surrounded by devices that intake and output data. The piece looks at modern society's comfort level and familiarity with these often personified and humanized devices. It also is a nod toward the endless feedback loop that is data acquisition and influence in a digital control society.
